My Work

Work in Progress

Currently working on a series entitled “Dare to be Free, Re-telling the Story”. This will explore the figures who worked to combat the enslavement of people with particular reference but not exclusive to France, the third largest of the slave-trading groups after Portugal and Great Britain. Credit is given to the publication of “Oser la Liberté, Figures des Combats contre L’Esclave”, from which the contents provided much information and inspiration. Juxtaposed and artistically transformed, presenting perhaps a different narrative, will be the image of the black (person) in western art, taken from the book of the same name…. from the “age of discovery to the age of abolition….” Renaissance, Baroque and beyond…. From the “Epihany of the Black Magus circa 1500 to Helidorus’s An Ethiopian Story in the Seventeenth-Century European Art”.
